The long-cherished dream of a direct train service from Karimnagar to Tirupati will be fulfilled with the flagging off of the special weekly express train service from Karimnagar railway station on October 20.

The weekly train will be operated on all Wednesdays from Karimnagar and on Thursdays from Tirupati. Train number 12762 will depart from Karimnagar at 1800 hours and arrive at Tirupathi at 0700 hours via Peddapalli, Warangal, Mahbubad, Khammam,Madira, Vijayawada,Gudur, Srikalahasthi and Renigunta. Similarly, train number 12761 will depart at 1700 hours from Tirupati and arrive at Karimnagar at 0545 hours.

Disclosing this to mediapersons here on Saturday, Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar said that depending upon the usage of the train by the people of Karimnagar, they would operate the trains bi-weekly and later make it a daily train service. He said that the train would have one AC-two-tier bogie and one AC-three-tier bogie, besides, 10 sleeper coaches and two general compartments and two luggage bogies. For the sleeper coach, the fares per head are Rs. 297, for AC-2-tier Rs. 1166 and for AC-3-tier Rs. 779.

He said that they would take the final decision on halting the Karimnagar to Tirupati train service at Jammikunta railway station. He also said that they would inaugurate the Jammikunta railway station which had been upgraded to Adarsha railway station at a cost of Rs. 4 crore on October 20.

Congress leaders Bomma Venkateshwar, Kanne Krishna, Y. Sunil Rao, D. Shankar and others were also present.
