Every eight seconds, a person is dying of diabetes in the world and two persons are detected to be diabetic, said Dr. D. Raghuraman, convenor of the Association of Physicians of India (API), Karimnagar chapter.
In a press note here on Tuesday, he said that two in every three persons suffering from diabetes die of heart ailments. He said that the diabetes was the major cause of preventable adult blindness. Stating that the diabetes was the cause of kidney failure, adding that the disease causes more than 60 per cent of the lower limb amputations each year.
The API, Karimnagar chapter, in association with the IMA, will conduct a diabetes run on November 14, marking the World Diabetes Day.
