Chief Secretary P.K. Mohanty left for Delhi on Tuesday to attend a meeting of the selection committee to finalise the candidates for the post of Director General of Police.
The selection committee of which Mr. Mohanty is a member will short list three members for the DGP post from among the panel of six eligible officers of DGP cadre sent to the UPSC.
At present, B. Prasada Rao is holding the post as in-charge DGP with full responsibility as the government could not complete the selection process before the retirement of former DGP V. Dinesh Reddy, who went to court challenging the State government’s decision to deny him an extension.
Pending completion of the formal process, the government appointed Mr. Prasada Rao to the top post, who is among the panel of officers.
