Integrated security zone for Tirumala, Tirupati and Srikalahasti being considered
TIRUPATI: The government is said to be toying with the idea of declaring Tirumala, Tirupati and Srikalahasti as an integrated security zone. Giving an indication to this effect, the Director General of Police R.R. Girish Kumar said the move is sequel to the prevailing sensitive security atmosphere in the State and so also the constant red alerts being sounded by the various security agencies to tighten security apparatus at all places which were more prone for security threats.
The DGP, who was here on Saturday used his visit, on one hand to review the security arrangements at all the sensitive places in and around Tirupati and Tirumala and at the same time to discuss the preliminaries underway to provide all the needed infrastructure to the Tirupati Urban Police District which the government had recently put in place.
Talking to mediapersons after formally inaugurating at the SVU's Red Buildings Enclave the Office of the OSD, Tirupati Urban Police District, Mr. Girish Kumar said that in addition to 200 SPF personnel already deployed at Tirumala, another 400 would be inducted into the force in phases as was requested by the TTD to meet the increasing need.
As for the Tirupati urban Police District, Mr. Girish Kumar said that the department was on the look out for a suitable site where it could provide the required infrastructure for the new set up, such as training centre, besides induction of forces to man the new unit.
Among those present in the DGP's entourage when he inspected the sites and engaged in deliberations over the security situation were the D.I.G (Anantapur), Charu Sinha, S.P, Chittoor, K. Ramakrishna, OSD (Urban District), Ravinder and SP (Admn), Tirupati, R.N. Ammi Reddy.
