NELLORE: Thousands of devotees of Jain community offered pujas to goddess Durga Devi (Sahasan Devi) at the Jain temple in the city on Friday.

The devotees who are on fasting (Upavasa Deekshalu) for the past 14 months offered clothes to the deity and performed special pujas in the temple at Mandapala Veedhi on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, Jain guru Panyas Uday Prabha Vijay Jee Marasat said devotees do ‘upavasams' that is called off on Akshara Tritiya, he said.

The devotees will organise a procession with bhajans on Saturday in which Jain sadhus and devotees from Gujarat, Maharastra, Tamil Nadu and other States will participate.

Earlier, the children performed cultural programmes at the temple on the occasion.
