Devotees made a beeline for Siva temples in Prakasam district to offer special prayers on the auspicious ‘Karthika Somavaram' on Monday. Women lighted rows of traditional oil lamps seeking the blessings of the divine couple of Siva and Parvati for the well-being of themselves and their family members.

‘Special Rudrabhishekam' was performed at the Santhapeta Veeranjaneya Swamy temple by a group of vedic priests, led by M. Srirama Sarma to ‘Sahasralingam' and ‘Dwadasa Jyothirlingams' sanctified by the performance of special rituals by Kanchi Kamakoti mutt pontiff Sri Jayendra Saraswati. People from different parts of Prakasam district and also from neighbouring Potti Sriramulu Nellore and YSR Kadapa districts visited the famous Bhairavakona to offer special prayers to the divine couple after taking bath in waterfalls.

Specials ‘rudrayagams' were organised to appease Lord Siva at Thirupurnathakam, one of the gateways to the Bramarambha Samedha Mallikarjuna Swamy temple at Srisailam in the neighbouring Kurnool district.
