Minister for Civil Supplies D. Sridhar Babu has announced that the department will put the details of all 2.25 lakh white ration card holders on website and the process will begin before the end of this month.
Responding to Rajahmundry MP Vundavalli Arun Kumar's suggestion on the issue, the Minister agreed to put the details of white card holders on website to tell the public about the government's effort to reach out to the poor through the public distribution system.
Addressing the one-day awareness programme on Re. 1-a-kg rice scheme for rural reporters, arranged by AP Press Academy here on Wednesday, Mr. Sridhar Babu said that the government wants to be transparent in all aspects and as a part of it, the government started social audit in PDS in Warangal on a trial basis.
The Minister said that a legislation would be made to stop misuse of essential commodities through public distribution system involving both MRO and beneficiary. He also warned that recycling of PDS rice would be dealt with strictly. Giving details of Re.1-a-kg rice scheme, the Minister said the government was spending Rs. 480 on each white ration card in the State towards subsidy every month and in East Godavari alone 20,000 tons of rice was being supplied to 15.75 lakh white card holders.
He said that Government Super Markets in Hyderabad and other municipal towns would be opened soon for the benefit of the middle class people. Mr. Arun Kumar blamed leaders of political parties for misuse of white ration cards and asked the media to take up the issue on the lines of sand and liquor mafia. He clarified that he was not against the Re. 1-a-kg rice scheme.
