Rajya Sabha member Renuka Chowdary has suggested designing an exclusive website to showcase the rich history and grandeur of Khammam besides providing an online platform to people living abroad share their ideas to promote the distinctive cultural heritage of the district.

The online initiative would also help motivate people across the globe to come forward to sponsor talented poor students and sportspersons, she noted.

She was speaking at a meeting held on the premises of Sthambadri Lakshminarasimha Swamy temple here on Tuesday evening to mark the completion of 60 years of formation of Khammam district. The meeting has discussed the preparatory arrangements to conduct the diamond jubilee celebrations of the formation of the district on a grand scale. It was attended among others by Deputy Speaker Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Aswaraopet MLA V Mitrasena, Collector I Srinivas Sri Naresh and Superintendent of Police A.V. Ranganath.

She urged the district administration to revive the Sthambadri festivities coinciding with the diamond jubilee celebrations.

Mr Vikramarka said the district has a chequered history of various historical movements, including the Telangana Peasants’ Armed Struggle and Library movement. The Collector said the diamond jubilee celebrations will be conducted in a befitting manner by organising a host of literary, cultural and other events as suggested by the speakers at the meeting till January 26 next year. Earlier, Ms Renuka Chowdary cut a cake and released 60 balloons marking completion of 60 years of formation of the district.
