Deputy Tehsildar dies in road mishap

B. Uday Kumar (51), Deputy Tehsildar (grain purchase assistant) of Nuzvid mandal, died here on Wednesday. He met with an accident on Tuesday night and had succumbed to head injury while on treatment. He is survived by wife, a son and a daughter.

Mr. Uday Kumar was actively involved in the promotion of table tennis in Krishna District for three decades and was the secretary of the Krishna District Table Tennis Association.

Known for his affable nature, Mr. Uday helped the game grow in city by setting up centres in Singhnagar, KBN College and in several other schools.

In his early days, he represented Acharya Nagarjuna University table tennis team in the inter-university tournaments and also represented India in the World veterans championship held at Brazil in 2008.

He played a pivotal role while conducting national-level tournaments in Vijayawada and in shaping the careers of talented paddlers like K. Spoorthy, who went on win several medals for Andhra Pradesh.

Mr. Uday actively participated in the Andhra Pradesh Non-Gazetted Officers Organisation as the associate president of Krishna District NGOs Association and played a crucial role in the pay revision commission meetings. He was also the director of Krishna District NGOs Housing Society.

Several sportspersons, administrators and officers of District Sports Authority, Krishna District Olympic Association, Krishna District Archery Association, Andhra Pradesh Table Tennis Association along with Joint Collector Gaurav Uppal, State NGOs Joint Action Committee chairman M. Gopala Reddy, A.P. NGOs general secretary P. Ashok Babu, Krishna District NGOs Association president A.V. Sagar and secretary Iqbal paid tributes to the departed soul.

The cremation will take place on Thursday morning.
