Give vent to feelings at district Congress committee plenary

TANUKU: Maganti Venkateswara Rao (Babu), Congress MLA from Dendulur in West Godavari district, expressed strong displeasure over non-representation of the district in State cabinet. Mr. Babu gave vent to his pent up feelings right in the presence of APCC president K. Keshava Rao at the plenary of district Congress committee here on Saturday. The plenary was intended to gear the party ranks for pachayat raj elections.

Hurting sentiments

Congress won 12 out of 16 Assembly seats and both the Lok Sabha seats from the district in the last general elections. But there was no representation for the district in the cabinet even two years after the elections, he regretted. "It is nothing but belittling the district and hurting the sentiments of local people," he added. He said the Congress rank and file was subjected to hecklings by rival TDP on the issue.

Mr. Babu recalled that he strained every nerve to wrest Tanuku and Chintalapudu from the TDP in the previous election in the face of all kinds of arm-twisting tactics by the TDP government. Another Congress party MLA from Chintalapudi Ganta Muraliramakrishna endorsed the views of Mr. Babu on "denial of berth in the cabinet".

Lack of representation of the district in the cabinet would have an impact on the local bodies election. "I want the Minister in charge of the district B. Satyanarayana Rao to stay in the district till the panchayat raj elections and make up for the loss", he said. Incidentally the district had three berths in the cabinet during the TDP regime.
