Rayalaseema Rashtra Samiti (RRS) president Kuncham Venkatasubba Reddy on Friday demanded that the UPA government create Greater Rayalaseema and promised that the party would support a Dalit to be the Chief Minister if statehood was granted.
Addressing “Rayalaseema Polikeka” public meeting at Kalakshetram here, he said that the region remained backward though nearly six decades had elapsed since the formation of the State.
Mr. Venkatasubba Reddy criticised former Union Minister A. Sai Prathap and former Minister J.C. Diwakar Reddy of ignoring developmental works for Rayalaseema region and the interests of its people.
Several leaders from Rayalaseema had become Chief Ministers, Union Ministers and President but had failed to develop the region, he said.
Though some leaders were demanding statehood for Telangana, leaders of Rayalaseema were hobnobbing with coastal Andhra leaders without focussing on issues regarding Rayalaseema such as irrigation projects, irrigation water and revival of closed industries, he said.
RRS State general secretary B. Krishnaprasad, district president S. Dastagiri, women’s wing president M. Lakshmi Devi, Dalita Praja Party president Sangati Manohar, Janata Party leader Veeranarayana Reddy, Rythu Sangham president L. Venkat Reddy participated.
Earlier, Mr. Venkatasubba Reddy offered prayers in Sri Lakshmi Venkateswara Swamy temple at Devunikadapa and came in a rally to Kalakshetram. He garlanded Sri Krishnadevarayulu’s statue at Krishna circle here.
