An eight-year-old girl who was suffering from heart problem since six months was successfully operated upon by doctors at the teaching hospital of GSL Medical College here. The girl, daughter of Adinarayana of Modekurru village in Kottapet mandal of East Godavari district, was taken to the General Hospital at Kakinada as she became breathless on exertion and her hands and legs were turning blue. On investigation, Dr. Asutosh Kumar, cardiologist, found that the girl was suffering with a serious cardiac problem called Tetralogy of fallot.
As the vessels carrying blood to the lungs were narrowing down, a hole was also found in her heart. A team of doctors closed the hole in the heart and then the vessels carrying blood to the lungs were reconstructed with pericardial patch. The surgery took five hours and the girl is recovering.
