Commissioner of Customs, Central Excise, and Service Tax C.P. Rao has asked those who have not paid the service tax to avail themselves of the Voluntary Compliance Encouragement Scheme (VCES) and pay the arrears.

Addressing a meeting to create awareness on VCES at Chartered Accountants building here on Tuesday, Mr. Rao said the VCES was an opportunity to defaulters to pay arrears and begin a new chapter in their business.

The scheme could be availed by those who had not made a truthful declaration of their service tax returns and those who did not submit their returns.

Persons who make use of the scheme would be exempted from all civil and criminal proceedings, he added.

Service Tax Additional Commissioner S. Khader Rehman said the VCES was a golden opportunity for the defaulters. Later, he showed some video clippings on the scheme.

Assistant Commissioner of Service Tax Vivek Gupta was present.
