The Communist Party of India (Marxist) leaders on Thursday urged the Prakasam district administration to ensure that Prakasam district was declared as cyclone-affected and liberal assistance provided to the affected people.
The party activists staged a demonstration in-front of the Prakasam Bhavan to press their demand.
A delegation of CPI(M) leaders led by its City Secretary G.V.Konda Reddy called on District Collector Anita Rajendra and pointed out that rains in the wake of the cyclonic storm Nilam had caused “extensive” losses to people in the city and elsewhere in the district.
The torrential rains had inundated over 60 colonies in the city, necessitating shifting of the dwellers to relief camps and damaged several roads, they said and pressed for immediate enumeration of the losses.
They submitted a memorandum to Ms. Rajendra and urged her to come to the rescue of people in among other colonies, the worst-affected Chaitanya Colony, Moturu Udhayam Colony, Dattatrey Colony and Ashok Nagar.
Meanwhile, the CPI (M) leaders called on Revenue Division Officer M.S. Murali and urged him to accord priority during survey for finalising house sites, to poor people in 20 colonies.
The RDO informed that house site pattas would be given first in colonies where there were no disputes among claimants.
The other colonies would be taken up in phases.
