Srikakulam: Joint Collector M. Veerabrahmaiah on Tuesday directed officials to ensure payment of compensation to all farmers whose lands had been acquired for the Vamsadhara Project by March 25.
The extent of land required was some 10,500 acres of which 8,000 acres was from the farmers. The remaining was Government land. The Joint Collector was reviewing land acquisition for various irrigation projects in the district.
Payment of compensation to the tune of Rs. 80 crores for some 5,000 acres had already been made. Arrangements were being made to pay for the remaining extent of land. The Government was requested to release Rs. 90 crores towards payment of compensation (Rs.50 crores) and RR package (Rs. 40 crores), Mr. Veerabrahmaiah said.
