Kadapa District Congress Committee official spokesman K. Nagendra Yadav and three ruling party functionaries of Jammalamadugu launched a hunger strike in front of Kadapa DCC office on Thursday alleging that the party leadership had been ignoring the services of active party functionaries.
Congress members Nagendra Yadav, B. Adinarayana, Thulaseeswar Reddy and B. Chandramouli questioned the appointment of Jagadeka Reddy as Jammalamadugu market committee chairman and demanded his removal forthwith, alleging that he was a YSR Congress Party functionary.
Mr. Nagendra Yadav, who unsuccessfully contested in the Assembly elections as the Praja Rajyam candidate from Jammalamadugu constituency in 2009, alleged that active partymen were being sidelined,
On the recommendation of Congress MLA of Jammalamadugu, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy appointed Jagadeka Reddy, who joined YSRCP, the protesters said and questioned why the post of Jammalamadugu market committee chairmanship alone was filled when several market committee posts were vacant.
Mr. Nagendra Yadav and his followers have threatened to quit the Congress if Jagadeka Reddy is not removed from the post and a genuine Congress functionary appointed in his place.
They put forth the matter to Kadapa DCC President Makam Ashok Kumar, urging him to undertake a hunger strike.
Several Congress functionaries expressed their support to the protesters.
