TDP leaders accused of threatening and blackmailing the Dalits
ANANTAPUR: Dalits from a few villages in Uravakonda mandal in the district staged protest on Wednesday alleging harassment by Telugu Desam legislator P. Keshav and his elder brother P. Sreenivasulu.
A large number of Dalits, including women from Pedda Koukuntla, Chinna Koukuntla, Ramapraum, Mylarampalli and a few other villages, led by Congress in-charge of the constituency Y. Visveswar Reddy, party leader Ch. Venkataswamy and others staged a dharna at the Ambedkar circle demanding protection from harassment by the TDP leaders.
Mr. Visveswar Reddy alleged that the TDP leaders were creating problems in these villages in the matter of house sites to Dalits who were sanctioned houses under ‘Indiramma’ scheme. He said the TDP leaders were threatening and blackmailing the Dalits if the latter failed to heed them.
The followers of TDP leaders were not even sparing the women.
They were also encouraging groupism among Dalits so that the house sites were given only to a few selected by them, the Congress leaders said.
A fear-psychosis was being created in the villages.Mr. Reddy charged the TDP leaders with swindling food-for-work scheme when their party was in power and were not obstructing the poor from availing of work offered under NREGS. A few women from the villages also explained their woes.
