Plans to help talented chess players as well
VIJAYAWADA: The table tennis fraternity of Vijayawada had all the reasons to feel happy with Wednesday's developments. Three of its up and coming paddlers found a sponsor in the Atlanta-based Cynergy Per4mers Inc, a company that has been promoting sports and games in Andhra Pradesh.
Keen to lend a helping hand to talented youngsters in various sports and games, Cynergy Per4mers Inc, floated by Ram Ganga Raju and Ravi Theerthala, NRIs from Vijayawada, donated Rs. 50,000 to K. Spoorthi, M. Mrudhula and Shailu.
Secretary of the Andhra Pradesh Table Tennis Association S.M. Sultan said: "Spoorthi and Shailu represented Andhra Pradesh in the cadet segment while Mrudhula is a sub-junior paddler. For the first time in the history of Krishna District Table Tennis Association (KDTTA), a company has come forward to promote gifted paddlers, which will augur well for the development of the game."
The sponsorship meant that all the three players would, henceforth, be sporting the company's logo in all their future tournaments.
Mr. Ganga Raju, who is the managing director of the company, said Cynergy Per4mers would, henceforth, deal only with promotion of cricket, while `Bhaavi Kreeda Foundation' to be launched at the Telugu Association of North America (TANA) meeting in the U.S. in July would promote other games and sports in Andhra Pradesh.
"Though we live away from Vijayawada, this city is close to our hearts, as we grew up here. We are determined to help precocious kids, who are at the crossroads of their sporting careers due to financial constraints," he said.
Company director (India Operations) V. Girish, patron and former international cricketer S. Venkatapathy Raju and public relations officer P. Sheetal, along with Krishna District Table Tennis Association secretary P. Uday Kumar and APTTA vice-president P. Viswanath, attended the function.
