Praja Rajyam president K. Chiranjeevi has demanded that the government take steps in advance to tackle the threat of ‘super cyclone' looming large over the coastal districts.

He said the government should shift people in the areas affected by heavy rain to safer places besides providing them food and other essentials. In addition, the official machinery should be geared up to minimise losses in the event of the super cyclone hitting the coast.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Chiranjeevi lamented that grievances of scores of people hit by heavy rain were left unattended while there was absence of advanced planning in effectively tackling natural calamities like cyclones and floods.

This was because of the “indifferent attitude” of the government and the “complacency” of official machinery.
