Death of accused person under suspicious circumstances
SANGAREDDY: Manda Yadagiri (25), native of Kistapur village in Medchal mandal of Ranga Reddy district, died under suspicious circumstances in the Gajwel police station on Friday.
Yadagiri was taken into custody by the ID earlier in the day near Pragnapur and was handed over to the Gajwel town police station for interrogation in connection with several house-breaking cases in the town. Gold ornaments weighing 3.5 tolas were recovered from him.
According to the police, Yadagiri went to the toilet in the police station premises and slashed his throat with broken mercury tube which he allegedly hid under his dress. The constable who escorted him to the toilet grew suspicious as the door was bolted from inside and the accused was not responding entered the room through the open top and saw Yadagiri in a pool of blood. He was immediately rushed to Gajwel hospital from there he was shifted to Gandhi hospital, Secunderabad, where he was declared dead.
However, there were conflicting reports about the death. Eyewitnesses in Gajwel pointed out that Yadagiri had been in the custody of the Gajwel police for the past one week but his arrest was shown only on Friday.
3 constables suspended
Medak Superintendent of Police P.V.Sunil Kumar, who visited the Gajwel police station later in the afternoon, held closed-door discussions with the staff concerned. Later speaking to reporters, he announced the suspension of three constables of the ID party-- Hanmanth Rao, Sambasiva Rao and Sufi-- for negligence in discharging duties. The SP would also mention name of CI Chatur Singh Rathod for action in his report to the DGP.
