VISAKHAPATNAM: Department of English of Dr. L. Bullayya Post Graduate College here celebrated its decennial recently.

Former professors of Andhra University were felicitated, competitions held for students in various events and a cultural programme was organised, HoD of English S.S.V.N. Sakuntala informed.

Some 150 students from the affiliated colleges and the host college participated in events like paper presentation, recitation, mono-action, mine and skit. Papers were presented on existentialism, Macbeth, Hard Times and Oliver Twist and provided a lot of information to the students.

The cultural programmes were all based on English literature. Speakers also stressed the importance and relevance of English language and literature in the present era of globalisation. Students enthralled the audience with the mime show on some parts of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Julius Caesar and Milton's Paradise Lost.

Chairperson of Board of Studies of English of AU B. Parvathi was the chief guest of the inaugural function. Secretary and correspondent of the college G. Madhu Kumar, Director (academics and administration) K. Bhaskara Reddy, Principal I. Parthasaradhi, Dean G. Lokeswara Reddy, faculty, students and staff of the college participated.
