HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party Polit Bureau on Monday resolved to pressure the government to waive all loans of farmers in view of the untimely rain wreaking havoc, especially on chilli and paddy crops.

At a press conference, TD Parliamentary Party leader K. Yerran Naidu, Polit Bureau member K. Srinivasulu and G. Butchaiah Chowdary, former Minister, lashed out at the government for being indifferent to the misery of farmers who lost substantially and still had the burden of loans.

Input subsidy

Mr. Naidu said the Polit Burearu had resolved to demand an input subsidy of Rs. 5,000 an acre for all farmers who lost crops. He wanted the government to buy sodden chilly crop through Markfed at Rs. 3,000 a quintal and have the Food Corporation procure the discoloured paddy at the minimum support price already fixed.
