City of Destiny with the second highest population in the State does not have good connectivity with various cities in the country through railways, putting the people of middle and lower income group at a disadvantage, the Bharatiya Janata Party has opined. The party has passed a resolution demanding creation of a Railway Zone with Visakhapatnam as its headquarters so that employment aspirations of the people here get fulfilled.
Deliberating on the topic during its city-level conference of party workers and leaders on Thursday, it resolved to seek a better connectivity to the city by first getting all the trains that were being diverted via Duvvada to the Visakhapatnam railway station.
‘Not getting its due'
Waltair Division of East Coast Railway with an annual income of Rs.3,300 crore does not get its due from the officials of ECoR, it said and alleged that injustice was being done by the Railway Board and Ministry also despite several representations, party city unit president M. Nagendra said.
The city with a population of 21 lakhs has good amount of floating population due to large-scale activity related to industries and educational institutions, he said.
Special train sought
It also demanded regularisation of the Visakhapatnam-Sainagar special train, introduction of trains to Mangalore, Chennai, Allahabad, a Duranto Express to Secunderabad, extension of Rajadhani Express to Visakhapatnam once a week as it was lying idle at Secunderabad for 35 hours.
