Kakinada: Special teams have been constituted to crackdown on the timber smugglers and also on their collaborators, according to C. Venugopal, assistant conservator of forests.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, he said, smuggling of valuable timber especially that of teak and rosewood was on rise in the recent past causing serious concern to the authorities. A high-level meeting held recently, chaired by N.Pradeep Kumar Conservator of forests, he said, had decided to combat the menace of smuggling and save the valuable timber. As a part of the strategy, he said, a mobile party headed by a deputy range officer of task force would keep a vigil in the plain areas and come out with iron hand on smugglers.
