: Reiterating that the CPI (M) will contest four Lok Sabha and 17 Assembly seats in Telangana, the party Telangana State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram said the party will finalise the contestants once clarity emerges on electoral alliances with other parties opposed to both the Congress and the BJP.

"The number of seats from where the party intends to contest might change depending on the poll alliances if any. The number will increase if the party has to go alone in the general elections," he noted.

Talking to newsmen at the party district office here on Monday, Mr Veerabhadram said the party has decided to field its candidates from Khammam, Mahabubabad, Nalgonda and Bhongir Parliamentary constituencies. Madhira is one among the 17 Assembly seats in Telangana from where the CPI (M) will contest, he said in reply to a question. Responding to a specific question on the prospects of an electoral tie-up with the YSR Congress, he said, electoral pact will be finalised only based on the clear-cut stand of the respective parties against the Congress and the BJP. "The CPI (M) is committed to work with the Left parties to defeat the Congress and the BJP.," he asserted. He said the CPI (M) cadres will strive with a missionary zeal to organise mass movements to alleviate the sufferings of the poor and development of Telangana.

The party district secretary P Sudarshan Rao, the district secretariat members B Ravi Kumar, Nunna Nageswara Rao, K Venkateswara Rao and others were present.
