Raghavulu to undertake cycle rally from Muthukuru to Krishnapatnam
Idea is to protect interests of local farmers Several issues include farmers' demand for scrapping of draft notification
NELLORE: In a bid to protect legitimate interests of the farmers in land acquisition at Krishnapatnam, the CPI(M) has decided to launch an agitation in a phased manner.
To begin with, the party has decided to stage a cycle rally at different villages in Muthukuru mandal on Saturday. Besides, CPI(M) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu will visit Krishnapatnam on Monday to take up the agitation.
It may be recalled that the State Government is keen on pushing through Krishnapatnam port development as well as thermal power plant works, but farmers in the villages of Muthukuru mandal are not willing to part with their valuable land for a variety of reasons. And they had even staged a massive agitation in the last week of May against the Government's move to acquire their lands.
Protect local farmers
Against this backdrop, the CPI (M) has chalked out a plan to launch an agitation to protect local farmers on all fronts, Raghavulu told The Hindu . "There are many discrepancies right from the issuing of draft notification to acquire 1,300 acres of land in Krishnapatnam, Muthukuru and Tamminapatnam to keeping affected farmers in dark over the entire issue," he said.
According to local CPI (M) leaders, the party will take up several issues including the affected farmers demand of scrapping of the draft notification. "Since it was issued without consulting the local farmers, the district administration should immediately hold talks with the farming community," an affected farmer K Rama Krishna said.
The Government should acquire lands only after consulting experts besides taking local farmers into confidence. Moreover, land acquisition should be taken up after paying a handsome compensation to farmers, he said.
