VIJAYAWADA: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) will organise several programmes and protests to bring pressure on the State Government to speed up the process of distributing land to the poor for building houses.
Addressing newsmen on Monday, CPI (M) district secretary V. Umamaheswara Rao said Ministers Koneru Ranga Rao, Dharmana Prasada Rao and K. Jana Reddy had described, during their campaign in municipal elections, distribution of house sites and construction of houses for the poor as the top priority of the Government.
But once the elections were over, the eligible poor were being told that there was not enough Government land to distribute house sites. and for taking up housing.
The revenue authorities had received applications for house site pattas from 50,000 families, but not even a single family was given a house under the Rajiv Gruhakalpa scheme, Mr. Rao alleged.
The CPI (M) had identified Government and endowment lands that could be distributed, but the revenue authorities were not taking any initiative.
Mr. Rao maintained that the Government and the agencies involved in the distribution of land were proving to be very `lethargic' in distributing land to the poor. But they were proving to be `very enthusiastic' in giving away the land to corporate companies.
Applications for the registration of house site pattas given to 13,000 families and the issuing of pattas to 13,000 families were pending with the revenue authorities.
