Presses demand for construction of de-fluoridation plant
KHAMMAM: The CPI (M) has stepped up its agitation to press for its demand for construction of a de-fluoridation plant giving supply of safe drinking water to Khanapuram haveli gram panchayat. Kanapuram is one of the fast developing localities in Khammam town.
Drinking water has for long been a major problem. The excessive content of fluorine in has become a hazard for the residents.
CPI(M) workers led by the Khanapuram gram panchayat sarpanch B. Sarala has been fighting for funds to provide safe drinking water to the new colonies that sprang up in the panchayat limits over a period of time.
A proposal was made for drawing water from the Nagarjunasagar left canal to support the supply system in the gram panchayat at a cost of Rs 1 crore. But it has not materialised so far.
The CPI(M) workers launched a indefinite hunger strike in the town to press the demand for supply of safe drinking water to the area. The protest entered its sixth day today.
The party workers staged a rasta roko on Wyra road near the DWCRA bazaar for nearly one hour disrupting the vehicular traffic.
The police dispersed the protesters at around 12 noon.
