Activists of the Communist Party of India(Marxist) staged a demonstration here on Sunday in protest against hefty hike in price of petrol in the wake of devaluation of rupee against US dollar.

The activists led by CPI(M) District Committee member K. Anjaneyulu came in a procession from the Sundaraiah Bhavan to the busy Addanki bus stand centre here, raising slogans against the petrol price hike, second increase during this month and making the lives of common people miserable.

Fuel price had gone up for the 200th time during the Manmohan Singh regime, contended its member G. Ramesh as the activists torched the effigy of the Congress-led UPA Government.

The hike would have a cascading effect on the prices of all essential commodities at a time when common people were clueless on coping with price rise, said CPI(M) leader B.Venkat Rao and K.Ramadevi.
