The city unit of Communist Party of India-Marxist CPI(M) has submitted a memorandum to incharge Municipal Commissioner K. Bhaskar urging him to take necessary steps to prevent inundation of colonies in future.
Mr. Babu Rao, on Thursday, told the Commissioner that residents of many colonies suffered due to Budameru floods and stagnation of drainage water. The drainage system needs to be streamlined and repairing of the roads that were damaged due to heavy rains or floods need to be taken up, he said. An experts’ committee should be constituted to inquire into the reasons that led to failure of the drainage system, he said.
The CPI(M) leader suggested that the flood victims should be provided pucca housing under Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) scheme. He also wanted the Corporation to repair the houses that were damaged in recent rains and floods; the houses were constructed by the government in areas like Kandrika, L. B. Nagar, and Rajiv Nagar, he said. Party city secretariat members Donepudi Kasinath, K. Sridevi, and Madala Venkateswara Rao were present.
