Communist Party of India-Marxist city leaders have submitted a memorandum to Joint Collector Ushakumari urging her to take necessary steps to withdraw the decision to link the Aadhaar cards and bank account with ration supply.
CPI(M) city secretary Ch. Babu Rao on Thursday said that it was not proper to link the ration supply with Aadhaar and bank accounts.
The poor cannot afford to open a bank account by depositing Rs.500. More so, a surety was required to open the bank account. The bankers should allow zero balance accounts, and the government needs to convene a meeting with them to formulate a policy, he said.
Referring to Amma hastham programme, Mr. Babu Rao said that all the nine commodities promised by the government were not being supplied at the fair price shops. The quantity was also not appropriate, and some shops were insisting to take all the nine commodities, he pointed out. Responding to it, the joint collector said that she would take necessary steps to resolve the issues raised by the CPI(M) leaders.
