Communist Party of India MLC P.J.Chandrasekar Rao on Monday demanded review of the agreement with Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) to meet the State's interest on supply of gas from the Krishna-Godavari basin.
Leading a dharna by the CPI front organisations--NFIW, AIYF, AISF, APNM in protest against cap on subsidised cooking gas, he said gas-based power plants were not getting adequate gas to generate power to their full capacity.
Mr Rao, also party-led AITUC state President found fault with the UPA Government for phasing out subsidies to the common people on the one hand and providing huge concessions to private companies. ''If only the concession given to private firms were extended to poor people all their basic needs can be met'', he felt.
He pressed for supply of unlimited LPG refills for social welfare hostels, Anganwadi centres and mid-day meal centres.
At least 12 cooking gas cylinders in a year should be given to all consumers, he added.
Earlier, activists of the National Federation of Indian women, All India Youth Federation and All India Students Federation, Andhra Pradesh Praja Natya Mandali(APNM) came in a huge procession to the Prakasam Bhavan raising slogans against the ruling Congress for cutting subsidies to poor people.
The APNM activists performed skits to highlight the plight of common people as result of neo-liberal economic policies by the ruling Congress.
