The formation day of CPI (Maoist) passed off peacefully in the Visakha Agency on Wednesday. No incident was reported till late in the evening.

The CPI (Maoist) was formed by merging the CPI (ML-People's War) and the Maoist Communist Centre on September 21, 2004 and was announced by top naxalite leader Ramakrishna at a press conference during the peace talks with Government in Hyderabad.

Police stepped up the security in the Visakha Agency along with the Central paramilitary forces and beefed up vulnerable police stations in the area apprehending trouble from the Maoists but the day passed off peacefully. Secretary of east division of CPI (Maoist) Ganesh and Galikonda area committee secretary Krishna wanted people to pay homage to the martyrs at the memorials. Meanwhile 11 militia members of the Maoist party surrendered before the OSD of Paderu A.R. Damodar on Wednesday. The police let them off without booking a case.
