CPI (M) activists staged a rasta roko at Borgam bridge on Hyderabad road here on Sunday protesting against the hike in fuel prices resulting in a traffic jam for a brief period.
Led by party district secretary Peddi Venkatramulu, the protesters raised slogans against the price hike and demanded the immediate rollback of the decision. They said that the Congress led UPA Government at the Centre had resorted to fuel price hikes repeatedly, imposing a heavy burden on the poor and middle classes.
The fuel price hike had a cascading effect on prices of all other commodities in the market making it difficult for the poorer sections, said Mr. Venkatramulu, alleging that the government had taken the decision yielding to pressure from oil companies. If the government continues to increase prices, it will have to pay dearly in the coming elections.
