KHAMMAM: CPI ( M) leader and MP. P. Madhu has said that his party strategy in opposing the Congress in the local body elections in the State has paid off. Addressing a news conference here he said the need of the hour was a strong opposition in the State.
The CPI(M), which had already been fighting the Government on a host of issues, had decided to distance itself further from the Congress to play an effective role as an opposition party. The party opposed the Government on issues concerning the common man including the hike in the price of the petrol and diesel. It welcomed the support of the Telugu Desam Party on this count as it would benefit the common man. He justified the CPI(M)-TDP alliance in the district saying the CPI(M) had fought the TDP when it was in rule because of its pro-World Bank policies. Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy had also opted for the same policies at the cost of the support of the CPI(M).
The Congress did not change its stand thus forcing the CPI(M) to opt out. One way it is an eye opener for the Telugu Desam Party. The CPI(M) was supported by the TDP on the Gangavaram and Thotapalli issues.
