NALGONDA: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Monday launched an indefinite dharna at the collectorate demanding that the Government pay just compensation for farmers who would lose lands under the proposed irrigation projects.

Addressing the protesters, floor leader of the party in the Assembly Nomula Narasimhaiah charged the Congress Government with showing step-motherly treatment towards the people of Telangana.

He alleged that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had failed to keep his promise with regard to payment of proper compensation to the farmers.

Rythu Sangham district president Nandhyala Narasimha Reddy warned of disrupting the Zilla Parishad meeting slated for October 13 demanding a fair deal for the farming community.

The protesters would remain in front of the Collectorate to highlight their plight till October 19, Mr. Reddy said.

Party leaders Anantharama Sharma, M. Sudhakar Reddy and others also spoke.
