“Only 180 people received cash at Ajitsingh Nagar branch of SBH’
The Communist Party of India-Marxist CPI(M) city unit took pot shots at the Union Government regarding Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme. The party alleged that the scheme was not being implemented properly.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, CPI(M) city secretary Ch.Babu Rao said that the cash was not being transferred into the customers’ accounts though the Government had promised so. The LPG cylinder was Rs. 410 last month and the gas agencies were collecting Rs.1016 from this month.
The subsidy amount was not transferred to the customers into their bank accounts. For instance, only 180 people received the cash at the State Bank of Hyderabad (SBH)’s Ajitsingh Nagar branch. Ramulu of Bhavanipuram received only Rs. 435 though he paid Rs.1016. The price of LPG cylinder was Rs.410 and now touched Rs.606, he explained.
The SBH, Ajitisingh Nagar has imposed a condition that the subsidy amount would not be released unless there were transactions in the account. The subsidy was coming down significantly as the Government was collecting Rs.25 towards VAT and cut in subsidy of Rs.25. The subsidised cylinders were linked to Aadhaar cards.
The Government could not issue Aadhar cards to many people in the city. They would be forced to cough up Rs.1016 per cylinder. The Government was requested to consider these issues and exempt gas from cash transfer scheme. The scheme could be extended to payment of scholarships and pensions, he added.
