CPI activists picketed Kadapa Collectorate on Wednesday demanding allotment of house sites to the poorer sections of the society.

The party would launch direct action from July 31 if the government remained indifferent to the demand, CPI district secretary G. Easwaraiah asserted. Poor persons who submitted applications in Indiramma, Praja Patham and Rachchabanda were still running from pillar to post, but in vain. Nearly 25,000 poor persons lacked houses in Kadapa city, he said.

Revenue officials were claiming that no government lands were available for housing, but were turning a blind eye to fake DKT pattas being created for tank, assigned, endowments and wakf lands by the land mafia, the CPI leader alleged. The government officials were lax at encroachment of lands by the ruling party functionaries, he alleged. He warned that the government would incur the wrath of the poorer sections. CPI city secretary G. Chandra and leaders W. Ramu, G. Venugopal, Vijayalakshmi, Badulla, Munaiah, Subbarayudu and others participated.
