The wearing of helmet has been made compulsory for two-wheeler riders with immediate effect. The decision has been taken in view of two-wheeler riders sustaining head injuries in a majority of road accidents.
Police Commissioner B. Shivadhar Reddy advised motorcyclists to wear helmets for their own sake and to avoid the prospect of giving life-long agony to their family members. Action would be initiated against two-wheeler riders who fail to wear helmets in accordance with the rules.
He also advised motorcyclists to purchase only those helmets that had ‘ISI’ mark and strap up the helmets for their own safety. He warned dealers against selling sub-standard helmets that do no bear the ISI mark.
A penalty of Rs.100 would be imposed on motorcyclists who do not wear helmets.
