In a departure from the past, cotton trading, especially weighing of the produce will take place only in the 16 Agriculture market yards in the district. This was among a slew of measures planned to be implemented by the district administration this season in order to streamline the cotton trading, which amounts to over Rs. 5,000 crore in just Adilabad town.
Collector Babu. A chaired a meeting of cotton traders, farmers, officials and others in Adilabad on Tuesday ahead of the trading season.
He patiently listened to all stakeholders before deciding upon the measures, which he said, should benefit all concerned with the trading.
The top official wanted the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) to be part of the trading process all through the season.
He asked the Corporation to ensure payments to farmers within three days of the transaction.
At the meeting, farmer leaders brought many issues to the notice of the Collector including flow of traffic in the market area.
The Police department promised them to take care of the vehicular traffic and other problems, by deputing adequate number of policemen during the trading season.
Mr. Babu. A warned the officials and traders of zero tolerance of misdemeanours. Mudhole MLA S. Venugopalachary, his Adilabad counterpart Jogu Ramanna, Joint Collector Sujata Sharma and RDOs also attended the meeting.
