Senior police officers flew by a helicopter on Saturday to the spot where an exchange of fire took place between a police party and a group of Maoists near Ullivalasa village in Koyyuru mandal on Friday evening.

The two Maoists killed in the exchange of fire were identified as Korra Lakshmana Rao (55) and Narsing (35). Though the police were yet to come out with an official statement on the identity of the two, villagers of Ullivalasa said Lakshmana Rao belonged to their village while Narsing was from Kumkumpudi. They said Lakshmana Rao might have gone to the area where the exchange of fire had taken place, to tap toddy. Narsing was suspected to be a member of the Galikonda local guerrilla squad.

The bodies were brought to Narsipatnam and post-mortem would be performed on them on Sunday.

Inspector General (Andhra area) Vinay Kumar Singh, DIG of Visakha Range Soumya Misra, SP of Visakhapatnam Vineet Brij Lal and a Greyhounds Commandant flew to the spot for an examination.

Narsipatnam OSD C.M. Trivikrama Varma and Deputy SP D. Narasimha Kishore were also present.
