In a startling disclosure, the daughter of Bethala Kantha Suneela on Thursday said that policemen tried to persuade her to sign on some blank papers after she had given the statement about the death of her mother at the NRI Hospital.

“A few minutes after they recorded my statement, a policeman came up to me with another bunch of papers, and asked me to sign again. I got suspicious and flipped the papers. I found out that some blank papers were kept bunched along with my original statement. I refused to sign and said that I was willing to come wherever they want and sign again,” said Mounika at her home. Her starling disclosure seemed to add credence to the view that policemen did try to alter the statement and were trying to shield some of their men, who were, as stated by the victim, present at the spot where a gang of drunken persons pushed her mother to death. The girl stuck to her statement that there were two policemen on the road when the incident occurred.
