A police constable who was removed from service for his illegal activities was arrested on Tuesday and gold ornaments worth about rupees nine lakh was recovered from his possession.
Town DSP K.G.B. Saritha said the accused Banoth Vijay was recruited as police constable in the 4th battalion APSP in the year 2004.
During his service he was suspended twice.
Removed from service
In August 2001, he was removed from service for his illegal activities.
Since then, Banoth Vijay had been staying in his village Redlawada and resorted to chain snatching at various places.
Vijay was arrested by the Nekkonda police in the wee hours of Tuesday from his house at Redlawaada village and 36.4 tolas of gold ornaments worth Rs.8,94,500 was recovered from his possession.
Circle Inspector Rajasekhar Raju and Sub-Inspector Amrutha Reddy were present.
