Alleging that cooperative polls were rigged, YSR Congress on Friday challenged the ruling party to seek a fresh mandate by dissolving the Assembly.

The party’s spokesperson, Ambati Rambabu described as farce the PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana’s claim that Congress had won 60 per cent seats in cooperative polls. He said the elections were heavily rigged from enrolment stage itself and as many as 10 lakh voters were enrolled on a single day.

He said the election results did not reflect the popularity of the ruling party and if the PCC chief was serious about it, the issue should be settled in people’s court. He said the State opted for cooperative polls as they would come under the purview of the Election Commission if held after March. He dismissed reports of YSRC joining hands with Congress as “negative propaganda”. On recent arrests, he said “we are not supporting the persons or the charges. But one thing is apparent. Owaisi brothers were arrested after withdrawing support to Congress and former minister, P. Shankar Rao was arrested after he fell out with the Chief Minister”.
