District Cooperative Societies’ election authority R. Kishore on Saturday released the election schedule on the direction of District Collector Neetu Prasad.

Addressing a meeting of the election staff of Rajahmundry and Peddapuram Revenue divisions here, Mr. Kishore said that the elections for 101 societies in Rajahmundry and 34 societies (total 135) would be held on Jan 31, for which notification would be released on Jan 22. Nominations can be filed on Jan 24 and scrutiny held the following day.

The last date for withdrawals is January 26.

The same schedule would be followed for the remaining two Revenue divisions, Kakinada (133 societies) and Amalapuram (162).

But the election for these two divisions will be held on February 4.

Mr. Kishore asked the staff to be more cautious in conducting elections, as the rural areas were very sensitive in nature and there was every possibility of law and order problem.

He said keeping this in view the district administration is conducting election in two phases and requested the police to provide full security.

The election officer asked the staff that there will be more political influences and pressures and no one should succumb to this in conducting free and fair elections.
