Telangana political Joint Action Committee chairman Professor M. Kodandaram called upon students to continue the movement for Telangana until the Centre announced its decision to favour the creation of a separate Telangana state.
Addressing a large gathering of students here at ‘Telangana Garjana’ meeting organised by PDSU on Saturday, he said that they should accept only a separate state of Telangana with Hyderabad as the capital.
“We should reject any proposal of a special package or constitution of a regional committee for the development of Telangana,” he added. Kodandaram said that though Union Home Minister Shinde stated that the Centre would announce its decision on Telangana within a month, the struggle for Telangana should continue with the same enthusiasm till the announcement came.
“We have to increase pressure tactically so that the Centre does not delay the announcement beyond one month. He said that Telangana political JAC would organise a massive public meeting at Gadwal town in the district on January 21.
Telangana Nagara Samiti chief Dr. Nagam Janardhan Reddy said that the Telangana movement should not either be slowed down or diluted or suspended on account of Shinde’s statement that the Centre would announce its decision on Telangana within a month.
He said that movement should continue with the same tempo and intensity to avoid any misconception of the movement having subsided. Launching a tirade against Minister for Information D.K. Aruna for differing from Telangana Congress leaders and Ministers, who had decided to intensify pressure on the Centre for a separate State, he accused D.K. Aruna of acting as a stooge of Semandhra leaders for his vested interest.
He appealed to District Congress Committee leaders not to follow D.K. Aruna in this regard and advised them to support Telangana Congress leaders who met under the leadership of Minister for Panchayatraj K.Jana Reddy.
