GUNTUR: The Nallapadu and Budampadu panchayats have given consent to alienate land in their jurisdiction to develop a summer storage tank each at both places to meet the water needs in Guntur city when the main water supply link – Guntur Channel – gets closed during summer, Mayor Kanna Nagaraju has said.

At Nallapadu, 82 acres of land was available for taking up the work on a 5 million litres per day plant and digging the tank would meet the demands for 50 days.

The one at Budampadu is about 90 acres and if the deal comes through, a 20 MLD plant can be supported for 20 days, he adds.

The cost of construction at both the places will be less than Rs. 1 crore, he says.
