List of persons to head the 59 divisional committees in the city has not been finalised

The ruling Congress seems least prepared to face any type of election in the three Assembly constituencies in the city.

Despite the enthusiasm of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee, the list of persons to head the 59 divisional committees in the city has not been finalised. The party high command is unable to bring about any consensus between the different groups.

In Vijayawada East Constituency, followers of former Minister Devineni Rajasekhar and MLA Yelamanchili Ravi are vying for the posts.

In Vijayawada West Constituency, the list sent by MLA Vellampalli Srinivas was contested by former Mayor Mallika Begum, who, in a novel protest, staged a dharna in the conference hall of Andhra Ratna Bhavan, the party office.

With the lists turning controversial, the one sent by Vijayawada Central MLA Malladi Vishnu has been kept pending, though there is nobody contesting it.

The BCs, SCs, STs, and minorities in the party are up in arms because they have been ignored by the APCC in the list of general secretaries, vice-presidents, and executive committee members.

The reaction from the ranks and complaints filed to the AICC have put the APCC on the defensive and the process of filling party posts and nominated seats seems to have taken a back seat, temporarily.

The Telugu Desam Party, meanwhile, has made a big issue of the widening of the road, or building a flyover at the foot of Indrakeeladri to resolve the severe bottleneck, a cause of daily traffic jams. The only arrow in the Congress quiver is the delay in construction of the flyover at Benz Centre by a company owned by TDP MP Nama Nageswara Rao.

The party leaders, in yet another bid to repel the Opposition onslaught, have released a list of eight flyovers and road projects for which funds have been released in its nine-year rule.

Former Deputy Mayor Samanthapudi Narasaraju, city president Adapa Nagendra, and working president Meesala Rajeswara Rao on Sunday said that a flyover was constructed near Milk Factory at a cost of Rs.37 crore.

Similarly, Rs. 68 crore has been sanctioned for development of inner ring road near Mustabada, Rs. 38 crore for flyover at Ramavarapadu, Rs. 36 crore at Gunadala, Rs. 42 crore for flyover at Benz Circle, Rs. 8 crore for flyover at Kanakadurgamma Varadhi, Rs. 50 crore for the Railways-JNNURM RoB near VAMBAY Colony, and another Rs. 36 crore for a RoB with JNNURM funds near Madonna School for the Blind.
