Party has always encouraged young blood: Digvijay

HYDERABAD: All-India Congress Committee general secretary Digvijay Singh has said all Congressmen across the country will be happy if Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi is nominated to the Central Steering Committee (CSC), earlier known as the Congress Working Committee (CWC).

Replying to a question on whether Mr. Rahul Gandhi would be included in the CSC, Mr. Singh told reporters that the Congress had always encouraged young people to come up. "If that happens, the popular demand of all Congressmen will be fulfilled and all of them will be elated and happy," he remarked.

To a question on whether democracy would be allowed to prevail by allowing elections to the steering committee, he said if was left to AICC president Sonia Gandhi to decide.

However, he hastened to add that AICC delegates had unanimously sent their request authorising Ms. Gandhi to nominate working committee members.

Suspense over theme

Asked if additional security arrangements would be sought for the plenary, Mr. Singh said the State Government was capable of tackling any situation.

Questioned about the theme of the plenary, he wanted the media to wait till the resolutions were ready.

Mr. Singh, accompanied by Andhra Pradesh Congress Comittee chief K. Keshava Rao, Marketing Minister, Botsa Satyanarayana, AICC secretary, Jayakkumar and Advisor to Chief Minister on public affairs, K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao inspected the arrangements at the sprawling Gachibowli stadium for the Congress plenary. They also visited all places where accommodation for delegates and other leaders was being arranged.
