NALGONDA: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Telugu Desam have charged the Congress with violating the code of conduct "in a big way" to win the Panchayat Raj elections.

Speaking to reporters at the TD district headquarters here on Tuesday, the CPI (M) leader and former MLA N.Narasimha Reddy alleged that the district administration had failed to prevent the Congress from violating the model code of conduct.

"Contrary to the EC orders, bars were open till late Monday night. Neither the Excise Department nor EC officials took any action against those who violated the code," he said adding that the local Congress leaders were threatening the opposition leaders. "The district administration and the Congress should shoulder the responsibility if any untoward incident takes place tomorrow," Mr.Narasimha Reddy said. TDP State Vice-President Gutta Sukhender Reddy alleged a transformer was installed at Katchakayala bhavi in Narketpally mandal last night in violation of the code of conduct.
